Providing maternal-fetal care to northeastern Ohio since 1992

Aultman Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Through our practice and Aultman Fetal Care Center, we provide subspecialty fetal imaging, comprehensive pregnancy health evaluations, high risk pregnancy care, pre-pregnancy counseling as well as genetic counseling.

What are maternal-fetal medicine physicians?

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists have completed a three year Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship (specialty training) after completing four years of residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, that occurs upon graduation from medical school.

MFM specialists have been trained to provide the care for both mother and the unborn baby in a high-risk of developing complications and hopefully prevent them. They provide this care by working with your obstetrician and gynecologist and will see you at a consultation visit.  Our physicians stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the field of maternal-fetal medicine as they are all involved in education and research.

Women may choose to meet with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist ahead of pregnancy to understand and better manage any pregnancy risks she may have. Prevention remains the passion of all maternal-fetal medicine specialists and we encourage you to discuss with our physicians.

Also, by working with our genetic counselor, we help parents assess the risk of birth defects due to family history, age or other health issues.  We help mothers and families understand risks for specific birth defects or genetic problems.  We are advocates for mothers and their children as they go through the pregnancy. Our team constantly strives to engage women in their care and discuss all their options. We are here to provide the best care for moms and babies.

Aultman Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Aultman Hospital is the only Stark County hospital with maternal-fetal medicine specialists on staff. The maternal-fetal medicine specialists are available 24/7 to provide the needed care for all pregnancies that may need special attention at brief notice. Aultman has a Level III Perinatal Center, which means we also have a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to attend to the smallest of babies in addition to the maternal-fetal medicine support to the mothers. Our neonatal intensive care unit nests in the middle of our Family Birth Center, should any baby need care. For more information on our maternal-fetal medicine services, read the cover story to Akron/Canton/Cleveland M.D. News magazine.
